Josh Lucas Come Home with a Pair of 3rd Place Runs

Written By: Walters Web Design

ST. LOUIS, MO (September 1st, 2008) -- This week Josh Lucas Racing had a big hurdle to get over as they were landed in Willamsburg, OH for the Battle of the Bluegrass Buddy Cook Memorial at Moler Raceway Park on Friday night. The team had never raced this track before and had to figure out the track very quick against some tough Bluegrass competition.

Lucas figured was able to figure the track out a little bit and post an eighth place qualifying run out of thirty two cars. This put the team in a good spot for the heat race and they would grab the runner up spot, giving them a somewhat unexpected starting spot for feature event.

As the green flag dropped for the $1,500 to win thirty lap event Joey Kramer would grab the lead while Lucas, Rick Bingham, Brandon Green, and Carter Jones followed in his tracks. A restart on lap two would allow a battle for the runner up spot as Green pressured Lucas. It looked as if Lucas was strong enough to hold the spot until lap ten when Green slid past for second. The very next lap Lucas would lose the third spot to Bingham moving the 78 car to the fourth position. As the field took the half way mark on lap fifteen Lucas found some reserved power and regained the third spot from Bingham. A caution on lap eighteen slowed the action. As they went green for the final time Kramer would pull away from the field and go on to take another Bluegrass victory while Green, Lucas, Bingham, and Jones completed your top five.

Next, the team headed to Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY. The team unloaded with a bang and took fast time. However, when they returned to the pits they noticed they had broken a ball joint. The team worked quickly to repair the car but was unable to make the quick six. Lucky for them the top six in qualifying are guaranteed a spot in the feature. This put Lucas sixth for the start of the main event. As they got underway the track quickly took rubber making it a one grove race track. Starting sixth this worked to the disadvantage of Lucas. The 78 car was able to pick off a few cars throughout the race and bring home another third place run, his second of the weekend.
