Josh Lucas Racing Visits Victory Lane for the Second Time in 2010 at Richmond Raceway

Written By: WaltersWebDesign.com / Josh Lucas Racing

AUGUST 29th, 2010 (ST. LOUIS, MO) Josh Lucas Racing piioting the #78 dirt modified returned to Richmond Raceway on August 28th for the second time this season and for the second time the team would return with the feature win. The night started out as usual with 22 mods signed in to compete in the nights event, hot lapping went fine. Josh was almost last to qualify with an end result of 2nd fastest. Josh missed pole by 1/100 of a second, we knew our night was going to be long but not how long until Josh came in from qualifying and said something was wrong with the transmission.

Josh Lucas Racing checked out the transmission and sure enough there was metal coming out of the fluid when we drained it. We came so very close to just loading it up and calling it night, but we decided to change the fluid and then used a magnet to remove what metal we could from the transmission case. Josh then took it around in the pits and said there was a grinding sound when he pulled off but it went away when he got a little speed built up, so we decided to run it.

Lucas started on the pole of second heat race and the #78 car survived through the 10 lap race for the win. The heat win would put him on the outside pole for the feature next to a driver that wins at Richmond almost every week. We made several changes to the car for the feature event. At the start the pole sitter got a little jump on Josh to take the lead. However, on lap 8 Josh took the lead and was out front for a couple of laps when a caution flew. Apparently, scoring did not catch the pass for the lead a few laps earlier as they put the pole sitter back in the number one position. This fired Josh up as he stopped to talk to the official, after exchanging a few words he decided to shake it off and fall behind the pole sitter. Again, the pole sitter got the jump but it didn't take Josh less than a half lap to take the lead back away from him.

After several more cautions and a lot of prayers we came away with a VICTORY. Josh Lucas Racing is really starting to like Richmond Raceway more and more. After the win Josh pulled on the front strech and sat on the side of car and waved to the grandstand, they went wild clapping and cheering. It was a nail bitter leading the race and knowing the transmission could go at anytime, we will get it fixed and be back on track next weekend ready to race.
